Exercise sends a message from your mitochondria.
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded inside mitochondrial DNA. Exercise increased the body's own MOTS-c in skeletal muscle and blood. Rebody is planning a 10 mg injection option.

A mitochondrial signal
A mitochondrial peptide switched on by exercise.
The body makes MOTS-c in response to metabolic stress. Researchers are studying how that signal reaches skeletal muscle, AMPK, glucose transport, and physical capacity.

Written into mitochondrial DNA
16 aaA signal made inside the cell's power source.
MOTS-c comes from a short open reading frame within mitochondrial 12S rRNA. It has been detected in human skeletal muscle and blood.

Muscle and serum rose after one cycling session.
Researchers measured endogenous MOTS-c in 10 young men before and after stationary-bike exercise. The peptide increased in skeletal muscle and serum. This was a study of the body's own MOTS-c, not a treatment trial.

Human treatment research
A 120-person randomized trial is recruiting.
A planned 120-person Phase 2a trial will compare subcutaneous MOTS-c with placebo for 12 weeks in adults with prediabetes and overweight or obesity. No treatment results are posted.
