Bremelanotide injection trials

1,267 women. Two phase 3 trials. Twenty-four weeks.

The RECONNECT trials randomized premenopausal women with HSDD to 1.75 mg subcutaneous bremelanotide or placebo as needed. The measured outcomes were desire and distress related to low desire.

Inside the mouth

Two placement options

Under the tongue or between cheek and gum.

The mini troche dissolves in the mouth. Sublingual means under the tongue; buccal means between the gum and cheek.

The prescription label will specify placement, timing, maximum frequency, strength, and flavor.

Bremelanotide injection safety

Not for uncontrolled high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease.

ContraindicationsThe approved injection is contraindicated in uncontrolled hypertension or known cardiovascular disease.
Common reactionsInjection trials most often reported nausea, flushing, headache, and vomiting.
Other label issuesThe label also covers temporary blood-pressure increases, heart-rate reduction, focal hyperpigmentation, pregnancy, gastric emptying, and naltrexone.
